Humectants

Humectants are strongly moisturizing substances that bind water in the skin, preventing its loss. They belong to hygroscopic compounds, i.e. those that have a very high ability to absorb water from the environment and retain it for longer in the stratum corneum. Moreover, humectants in cosmetics prevent the products from drying out.

The lack of hydration has a very bad effect on the condition of the skin, which becomes dry, rough and prone to irritation. Dry skin also adversely affects the condition of collagen fibers, which in turn contributes to faster skin aging. Wrinkles appear, the skin loses its elasticity and proper tension. The skin goes limp faster.

Moisturizing substances , i.e. humectants, can penetrate deep into the epidermis and retain water in the stratum corneum, making the skin stay moisturized, soft and elastic for a long time.
